Oil painting shaped by traditional techniques, digital imagery, and experimentation
His practice is informed by his studies in Florence, Italy, and a strong interest in the technical process of painting. He works with close attention to form, detail, and process, building large-scale images through many layers of oil.
Kraft distorts and reconstructs recognizable forms, removing them from their original context and pushing them toward something unfamiliar. His paintings combine the precision of classical painting with the fragmented and uncanny qualities of digital imagery. The slow, physical process of painting contrasts with the speed of image production in today’s digital age. Through this tension, Kraft explores how traditional ways of making images can be reworked to reflect the way we create and experience images today.
